Police Chase Sends 3 To Hospital

MOBILE, Alabama -

3 people were rushed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a short police chase ended on Wellington Street near Prichard Avenue.

"I just heard the police chasing a car this afternoon down my street running about 80 and 90 mph. They lost control of the car and he ended up right next door. I thought it was in my living room. It sounded like a tornado," said a witness.

But, Mobile Police say this wasn't a high speed chase, only topping out at speeds under 60 mph.

"As you can see this is very residential so those are high speeds through this area. The vehicle blew a tire and eventually overturned it," said Ashley Rains with the Mobile Police Department.

A 26-year-old was questioned by officers and placed in a patrol car. He was one of the passengers involved in the crash, but his mom isn't understanding what happened.

"He got in the car with some friends and he went with them to get some cigarettes he didn't even have shoes on because he was only going to be gone for a few minutes," said Rhonda Patton.

She says her son and his 3 friends were going up the street to buy cigaretttes. Even though police are telling her the chase was less than a mile and only topped off at 50 mpg, she says things aren't adding up.

"I was told the car had flipped 3 times so something about that story isn't right. They had to have been going a lot faster than that for that car to be flipped up against that tree," said Patton.
