ERWIN, TN (WJHL) -
A Unicoi County Sheriff's deputy is accused of beating up his wife.
Daniel Honeycutt was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with domestic assault, according to Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley.
Tuesday night, Honeycutt's wife was treated at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital emergency room for what the Sheriff described as minor injuries.  Early Wednesday, Hensley said he got a warrant for Honeycutt's arrest.  The deputy was taken into custody at 1:30 a.m..
The 7-year veteran of the Sheriff's office was booked into the Unicoi County Jail, but Hensley said he made arrangements for Honeycutt to spend the night in the Carter County Jail.
Sheriff's Hensley issued the following statement:
"As the elected Sheriff, I have a duty to provide protection for all citizens of the county and furthermore I have the sworn duty to vindicate victims by holding individuals who violate the law accountable.   In this unfortunate event, the violator happened to be one of my deputies.  This case quickly evolved from an internal investigation to a criminal investigation.  As I have stated before, my deputies are not above or exempt from the law.  It is my duty to enforce the law, and I have done that."
Hensley said Honeycutt was arraigned in Unicoi County Wednesday morning and was released from custody after posting bond.
