Members of the Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church held a Stop Hunger Now event to refill food banks after supplies have been sent to aid those affected by the Typhoon in the Philippines.
More than 250 volunteers packed soy, rice and dehydrated vegetables in bags to fill boxes used to restock food banks that have been depleted following the devastating typhoon that leveled parts of the Philippines.
Five boxes equals 1,000 meals for those in need. The goal was to package a total of 100,000 meals Saturday. The group said each meal only costs 25 cents.
The event was sponsored by the Cary Rotary Club.
