Children Jump From Window To Escape Fire

IRVINGTON, ALABAMA -

9-year-old Jeremiah Penn and his four siblings were inside their home in Irvington Friday night when a fire broke out.

"We smelled some smoke and we tried to go see what it was but we couldn't because there was a lot of smoke so we went back into the room and went into the closet," said Jeremiah.

It's hard to tell, but it was a two-story home. The kids quickly started looking for a way out.

"The house was on fire and we had to jump out of the window and they were catching us and falling down," said Rihanna Penn.

Their big brother was making sure they all made it out of the burning home alive. All 5 kids jumped from the second floor window.

"It was very scary. The only people I had to push out were C.J. and Rihanna, but I three Rihanna down and they caught her," said Jeremiah.

One of the kids broke his arm. The mother broke her foot.

The home is a total loss. Nothing could be saved.
