LEE COUNTY, Ala. -

An elderly woman has died after a two-vehicle accident in Lee County Sunday afternoon.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said 68-year-old Carol Copeland Squires, of Demopolis, was pronounced dead at the intersection of Lee Road 262 and U.S. Hwy 29 North.

Witnesses said it appears Squires was traveling west on Lee Road 262 when she attempted a left-hand turn onto U.S. Hwy 29 North. She was struck broadside by a 2004 Toyota Tundra. Both vehicles left the roadway, but the passengers in the pick-up truck were not injured.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident and everyone was wearing seatbelts.

The accident remains under investigation.
