(MOBILE, AL)—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District announced today that residents living around West Point Lake and recreational users need to be aware of upcoming lake levels. Levels have been slowly dropping and will continue to go downward towards winter pool at 628.
"We have had an extremely wet summer which has allowed us to keep the lake at full summer pool until now," said E. Patrick Robbins, Public Affairs Officer, Mobile District. "Normally basin-wide water needs would have necessitated a gradual drawdown of the lake throughout the summer. It has been some time since we have had a normal summer with full pools and not been in drought operations."
West Point Lake has begun its yearly drawdown decreasing from its full summer pool of 635 feet to the full winter pool of 628 feet. This drawdown is part of the normal operation of West Point Lake that occurs from November 1 thru December 15 to make room for the higher flows that occur in during the typically wet winter/spring months.
