CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The radiothon for the North Carolina Children's Hospital is in its 12th year and with a goal to raise $1 million this year.

A total of 10 local radio stations have been airing stories from 50 families whose lives have been changed by the hospital located at UNC.

One of those families is the Duprees. Doctors found a tumor on the right lung of their child when Kimberly Dupree was 24 weeks pregnant.

Doctors placed four stints in to help drain fluid from the tumor until their baby, Landon, was ready to be born.

At 34 weeks, Kimberly Dupree starting giving birth to Landon.

"They partially delivered him, removed the tumor, then finished the delivery after that," Kimberly Dupree said.

Kimberly Dupree said Landon spent six weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit before he was able to be sent home.

That was seven months ago, Kimberly Dupree said Landon is doing great and off oxygen.

"Looking at him, you wouldn't ever know anything had happened to him. He's just a miracle," she said.

The radiothon is accepting donations to allow stories like the Duprees' to continue.

Donations can be given through 1-866-9-NC-KIDS or online until 10 p.m. Thursday.
