Auburn's AUtumn Nights kicks off Friday at new location

Posted: Updated:

Auburn has come up with a way to enhance the game day experience for fans.

It's called Autumn Nights, with a capital AU. It started three years ago.

The city puts on a huge party, with a concert, and pep rally.

Friday, November 29, 2013 will be the first Autumn Nights at the new venue created just for the event at the corner of Gay and Magnolia. We caught up with the construction crew last week as they worked to get the venue ready.

Fans can gather Friday night and listen to the Swingin' Medallions perform.

"We just wanted folks to come in early on Friday and have something enjoyable and spend the night with us and be here for the game the next day rather than trying to scoot in the day of and then scoot back out,"  said Robyn Bridges, Vice President & Public Relations Director for the Auburn-Opelika Tourism Bureau.

This Friday, the streets will not be closed. Fans can listen to the concert, eat in the restaurants, and shop and get an early start on their Christmas shopping as many of the retailers will be open for extended hours.

Mayor Bill Ham is in his fourth term as mayor of Auburn. When he walks the city sidewalks, family memories come flooding back. His father ran Bill Ham Cleaners on Magnolia Street for 35 years. Standing in front of the old storefront, Ham told me, "At the Georgia game I still had people that would say to me, 'Man, I was in school and your dad helped me do this or that.' He was there long enough to touch a lot of generations." Ham has a lot to brag about when it comes to Auburn. It ranks as th...
