Christmas decorations up at Tryon Palace

Posted: Updated:
NEW BERN, N.C. -

One of New Bern's most popular tourist attractions is busy this week preparing for the holidays.

Volunteers and staff members at the Tryon Palace have been working around the clock putting up Christmas decorations.

The palace gates and each of the historic homes are decorated, but the North Carolina History Center also needs decorations too.

The decorations are consistent with the 18th century look of the palace, but they're also inspired by this year's theme: seasons of delight, said Craig Ramey, spokesperson for Tryon Palace.

Friday will be the first full day visitors can see all the decorations.

"There's so many people that are behind the scenes that make it perfect. It just wouldn't be possible without them," said Sadaf Hassan, chief designer of Christmas decorations at the Tryon Palace.

Decorations will be up for the rest of the year. The palace says they'll be taken down January 5.
