Judge approves American/US Airways merger

Posted: Updated:

Thanks to a federal bankruptcy judge, two airlines are closer to becoming one.

Judge Sean Lane cleared the way for American Airlines and US Airways to merge by dismissing a final objection from a group of airline passengers trying to block the deal.

Lane also approved an antitrust settlement reached earlier this month between the airlines and the Justice Department.

The department's earlier objections to the deal had been a major obstacle to the merger.

This merger is now set to take place on December 9th.
