Police: Woman in custody after Iron Bowl shooting

HOOVER, Ala. -

A woman was shot and killed in Hoover and the motive may have been connected with the Iron Bowl.

Police say a woman in her 20's is accused of shooting and killing 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd.

The shooting happened at the Summerchase Apartments around 7 p.m, both the shooter and victim were at an Iron Bowl party.

The victim and the suspect were both Alabama fans, and were involved in a verbal argument after the game. The argument moved to the parking lot, and became a physical altercation on the ground. The victim was shot with a small caliber handgun.

The suspect remains in Hoover Police custody; the case continues to be investigated by Hoover Police detectives.

Meanwhile, Shepherd has three children ages 8, 6, and 4. The children are staying with family members while the aunt plans to get guardianship of them.
