Suspect missing after Lee County police chase ends in Columbus

Posted: Updated:

Authorities from Columbus and Lee County are continuing to look for a suspect after a police chase went across state lines Tuesday afternoon, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones tells WRBL News 3. The driver of the vehicle was taken in to custody after the pursuit.

Just after 4 p.m., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Department pursued burglary suspects as they drove across the Chattahoochee River, Jones says. The 20-minute chase ended in Columbus, with local authorities there aiding in the search.

Monpracious D. Harris, 20, of Phenix City, was driving the vehicle and arrested after the chase. He is in the Muscogee County jail awaiting possible extradition back to Alabama. He is expected to face felony charges related to burglaries.

A description of the second individual, a passenger in the vehicle, was expected to be released shortly by authorities.
