COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Arnold Magnet Academy in Muscogee County has more to offer its students then just a magnet program. The school also has an academic bowl team. The team just won their district and is headed to the regional competition in January.

Nithia Jose says, "We had five different rounds and we had different people with us and when we were practicing we always try to do it with different people so when we go into the actual thing, we're more comfortable around each other."

Academic bowl coach Kelley Taylor says that the students didn't just practice. She says they prepared for weeks for to get mentally ready for the competition. Kelley Taylor says, "It's about practicing with them and getting them comfortable enough to buzz in."

All of that preparation helped students learn how to be confident in their answers. Chad Floore says, "I think it helps me not to be afraid of my answers. Sometimes you overthink things and its really not that complicated."

The school also produces its own newscast. Olivia Gauthier says, "We have like two anchors, sports, we have to get our scripts together."

The students also made their own video sequence. Emma Lipscomb, "I think the most fun part is seeing the whole thing come together."

The staff and faculty at Arnold Magnet Academy take pride in their school and their students. Principal Dr. Badura says, "We are A-M-A-zing here at Arnold." Assistant Principal says that they are definitely a cool school.
