Second arrest in Pamlico County home invasion

Posted: Updated:
Deputies in Pamlico County caught and arrested the suspect in Saturday's armed home invasion.

The Pamlico County Sheriff's Office says it happened on Millpond Road, just outside the Town of Alliance.

Deputies say Antonio Quarels shot two people identified as Tina and Jonathan Garcia. The two were inside their step-father's home. Antonio Quarels was arrested around 6 p.m. yesterday for shooting his stepbrother and stepsister. He was brought to the Pamlico County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond.

Deputies identified the step-father as Brian Quarels, he was also home at the time. Investigators say Brian originally told police that he fought off the suspect; he was trying to gain access to a safe inside the house. After police interviewed Brian Quarels and his wife, they determined their story was a lie and that Brian Quarels helped his son, Atononio, get away.

Brian Quarels was arrested and booked at the Pamlico County Detention Center around 3:50 Sunday morning. He's charged with accessory after the fact, resisting arrest, false police report. He's been placed under a $500,000 bond.

EMS rushed the two victims to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Authorities say each were shot once below the waist.
