Deputies recognized for support of Toys for Tots

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - It's an annual tradition in the east; riders hitting the open road for the less fortunate.

Celebrating the accomplishments of the Toys for Tots program is part of 9 On Your Side’s Community Spotlight.

Each year, the Pitt County Marine Corp reserve unit hosts their Toys for Tots drive.

In 2012, they delivered 10,000 toys to needy children in and around Greenville.

Wednesday afternoon, the organization recognized the Pitt County Sheriff's Office and one of their deputies for their support.

"The parents are very excited and the kids are just overwhelmed when they see that they are getting toys that they didn't normally think they were going to get," said Sgt. Doug Peterson, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.

This Saturday, hundreds of riders will deliver and sort out the toys they collected.
