Tide working on new deal for Saban?

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -

Nick Saban and the University of Alabama are in talks regarding a contract extension, but there is no formal offer on the table, according to ESPN.

The network reports Saban has a "verbal offer of commitment," but no formal contract offer.

A source told ESPN that the longer a deal remains unreached, the more uncomfortable Alabama officials become.

Saban is currently under contract with Alabama until 2020 and is paid $5.62 million per year. That deal was signed in March, and at the time, Saban said it was representative of how he wanted to end his career in Tuscaloosa.

However, with Texas's Mack Brown expected to step down soon, Saban has emerged as a top target for the Longhorns.

"He's working his [tail] off on recruiting," said Alabama athletics director Bill Battle while at the IMG Intercollegiate Athletics Forum in New York. "We're focused on recruiting and playing Oklahoma. The Sugar Bowl is where his efforts are and that's where mine are."
