Burke County's Lambert Picks Auburn - WRBL

Burke County's Lambert Picks Auburn

Posted: Updated:
Waynesboro, GA (WJBF) -- War Eagle! Former Burke County defensive end DaVonte Lambert is going to Auburn. The former Bear, who spent the last 2 years at Georgia Military College, had verbally committed to Tennessee. As WJBF Sports reported on Monday, Auburn was making a late push for Lambert's services.

Lambert told WJBF on Wednesday that he chose Auburn because of the Tigers family and because of his relationship with Auburn defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner (a former longtime Georgia assistant). He says his choice had nothing to do with his recent trip to the Iron Bowl or Auburn's great record this season.

Lambert also says that Auburn will be getting a mature player after his experience at G.M.C.

The 6'3" 275 pound Lambert is widely considered one of the top junior college transfers in the country. He starred for the Burke County Bears from 2008-11, helping them a 2011 GHSA Class AAA state championship as a senior. He then signed with G.M.C. where he helped the Bulldogs to an appearance in the NJCAA national championship game. Lambert is a 4-star prospect according to Rivals.com.

Lambert was a member of the 2011 WJBF All-CSRA team. He has a pair of cousins who played for the University of Georgia, Marcus and Cornelius Washington.
