Kinston man indicted in teen's death

Posted: Updated:
KINSTON, N.C. - More than 2 years after a teenage girl turned up dead of a drug overdose, a Lenoir County man is in jail facing charges.

A grand jury indicted 46-year-old Ralph Winn Tuesday.

He's charged with 2nd-degree murder and possession with intent to sell and deliver.

In June of 2011, Lenoir County deputies responded to a reported drowning at the home of Kaitlyn Rouse.

Toxicology reports later showed she overdosed on prescription drugs, including Xanax.

The SBI investigated the case along with deputies. They say the girl bought the drugs from Winn, just hours before turning up unresponsive.

9 On Your Side was there as Winn made his first court appearance.

The teen's mother was there, too.

"This is just the beginning,” said Shannon Ruiz, Caitlyn's mom. “Now we have to move forward with the trial and hope the jury finds him guilty and that justice is served."

Winn is in jail with bail set at $450,000.
