COLUMBUS, Ga. -

One woman is dead and another has been hospitalized after a shooting at a north Columbus business Tuesday morning, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Police were called to the scene of Courtesy Shuttle on Veterans Parkway around 6:30 Tuesday morning. Police haven't released any names so far but say a man who is part owner of the Courtesy Shuttle was awakened in the business by 2 women who threw a large rock through the front door in an attempted burglary.

Lt. John McMichael said the confrontation and shooting took place in the front section of the business and spilled over into the parking lot. Police believe the man was the shooter. One woman, 24 year old Deaisa Ransom, fled on foot to the Brittwood apartment complex where she was found. She is currently in critical condition at the Midtown Medical Center. The other woman, 21-year-old Achievia Shanese Upshaw died in the Emergency Room. She was pronounced dead at 8:21 a.m. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso. Police say they do not know if the women were armed but no one has been charged.

The case remains under investigation.
