Tips on winterizing your car

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM, AL - We are definitely feeling the wintry temps and if you have a car, mechanics say your car's engine needs to be ready to take on this bone-chilling weather.
A local car mechanic says people should have their car's anti-freeze level checked. If the car doesn't have enough anti-freeze, the radiator can freeze. Trent Hatfield with Hatfield Auto Parts and Service says drivers can buy an anti- freeze tester at auto parts stores.

Some more important tips on winterizing your car, are having enough tread on tires and air pressure in them so the rubber won't hit an icy patch and cause an accident.
Having the battery, brakes, wiring, hoses and fan belt checked is also key. Something else people should have in their car is an ice scraper or a bottle of de-icer to help remove ice. And finally, before you leave the house, give that car about five minutes to warm up.

More than 94 million and climbing... that's how much the ALS Association has collected from its viral ice bucket challenge. That number changes daily. The ice bucket challenge is not for everyone and some disagree *where* you should donate your money.
