Homewood pastor Shahan won't fight extradition in wife's murder

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN - A former Williamson County (Tenn.) pastor will not fight extradition back to Alabama to face murder charges in connection to the stabbing death of his wife last summer.

Richard Shahan waived his right to an extradition hearing in front of Judge Angelita Blackshear Dalton Tuesday morning.

Authorities in Jefferson County, Alabama now have 10 days to come to Nashville to get Shahan and bring him back to Alabama.

Shahan was arrested at Nashville International Airport on New Year's Day as he tried to board a flight to Frankfurt, Germany.

Shahan had been a prime suspect in his wife Karen's murder last July.

She was found stabbed to death by police after she failed to show up for work.

Shahan was an associate pastor at First Baptist Church Birmingham.

The Shahans previously lived in Williamson County where Karen Shahan taught part time at Franklin Classical School.

Richard Shahan will remain in the Davidson County jail until he is extradited.
