American Red Cross seeks to rebound from severe winter weather

Posted: Updated:
Severe winter weather forced the cancellations of approximately 300 blood drives across 25 states, resulting in a shortfall of nearly 8,800 blood and platelet donations since January 2.

“It’s the blood products already on the shelves that help save lives when severe weather hits,” said Jerry J.K. Tillery, CEO of the Red Cross Southern, Alabama & Central Gulf Coast and Puerto Rico Blood Services Regions. “Thanks to generous Red Cross blood and platelet donors, blood products were available for patients who still needed transfusions despite the weather. Now we invite those previously ‘frozen out’ from giving blood or platelets to come in soon.”

To donate in Columbus, you can call (706)-317-3529 to make an appointment. The donor center is located at 7490 Veterans Parkway. In Russell County, (334)-298-3631. The donor center is located 1208 8th Avenue in Phenix City.
