2 suspects, victim charged after Pirate's Place attempted armed robbery

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Police have charged two suspects and their victim after an attempted armed robbery at a Greenville apartment complex.

9 On Your Side was the first on the scene when it happened Sunday night just before 8 p.m.

Officers say the attempted armed robbery inside an apartment at Pirates Place off Charles Boulevard was a failed drug deal.

Investigation into the incident revealed the two suspects showed a weapon during the attempted robbery and were shot at by the male resident of the apartment. One of them, Maurice Allen Jr., suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg during the incident.

Officers say the would-be robbers then crashed into the complex's main gate as they were trying to drive off. Two police cars patrolling the area at the time quickly brought the men in for questioning.

The pair, Maurice Allen, Jr. and Jaquan Lane were arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling.  Their bonds were set at $1.5 million.

Police also charged the victim of the robbery, Christopher Dixon, with Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substances, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Sell / Delivery of Marijuana, And Conspiracy to Sell / Deliver Marijuana. Dixon’s bond was set at $200,000.

ECU students walking home from dinner say they knew something was wrong right away.

"I see it closer, like cop cars, and heard armed robberies. Our friend who's home thought she heard gunshots, so it's a little sketch. A little sketch. A little sketchy. It's a little scary," said Rachel Hutzenbiler, ECU student.

Police say they've amped-up patrols at this complex in recent months in response to a spike in emergency calls.
