Major blaze destroys Raleigh home

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at a house in Raleigh Sunday night.

Flames engulfed the house on Denberg Lane around 9 p.m. Sunday, officials say. Ten fire departments responded to the scene.

Fairview Rural Fire Department Assistant Chief Donald Pierce told WNCN's Bianca Spinosa that it appears there was not a gas explosion as some originally thought.

No one was hurt and Pierce and neighbors say the family who lives there were not home as they were out of town and out of the country.

Firefighters had to force their way into the home and were only able to proceed a few feet to fight the blaze.

The fire was mostly contained to the home, but part of the Fairview Greenhouses and Garden Center was also damaged.

The house was still on fire and smoldering at 5 a.m. Monday, more than eight hours after the fire started.

Officials say the cause is undetermined and an investigation will begin at sunrise.

According to Wake County tax records, the home is more than 5,300 square feet and valued at more than $820,000.
