NC health agency leaders facing legislators again

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - General Assembly members are poised to hold another meeting about more troubles within North Carolina's health agency.

The legislature's Health and Human Services Oversight Committee planned to spend several hours hearing from department leaders Tuesday. The meeting comes as the department has received recent criticism for mistakenly mailing Medicaid cards for children to wrong addresses and an increase in the food stamp application backlog after it declined in the fall.

The chorus of Democrats calling on Gov. Pat McCrory to replace department Secretary Dr. Aldona Wos (vahsh) grew last week, but Republicans in control of the General Assembly aren't joining in. Sen. Tommy Tucker of Union County said Monday he wants more answers but believes now it's best to keep Wos on the job to bring stability to the agency.
