MONTGOMERY, Ala. -

Auburn High linebacker/defensive end Rashaan Evans was named the 6A lineman of the year at the annual ASWA awards Wednesday in Montgomery.

The Tiger senior received 74 votes, 18 more than second place Shaun Hamilton from Carver-Montgomery.

Evans is undecided on his college, but is one of the top prospects in the country. He seemed impressed by what Gus Malzahn did at Auburn this season.

"He changed the whole community, from all the things that were going on, other than just football, everything that was outside of that," Evans said. "Big ups to him."

Also on Wednesday, for the second straight year, an Auburn commit won the AHSAA Mr. Football award.

Oxford High running back Roc Thomas was given the honor after rushing for 2,211 yards and 32 touchdowns this season.

"It means a lot," he said. "It humbles me a lot. It's just great to win this award, because everybody in this room was deserving of this award. I'm just grateful for it."

Thomas rushed for 6,169 yards and 82 touchdowns in his career.
