Dream Day Foundation prepares to advance MLK's dream in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Ala. -

A Lee County organization is getting ready for their Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration Monday.

The Dream Day Foundation hopes to take Dr. King’s dream of justice and equality and spread it through the community in their 15th annual celebration. Kids perform songs and skits to celebrate this dream. Marion Sankey, the founder of the Dream Day Foundation, says celebrating is important to continue our country's progress.

“This is a man who fought, marched and died for this entire country, not just for one race of people, but for all people, and I think it's important that we remember what he did because we don't want to go back to those days, we want to continue to move forward,” says Sankey.

Monday's event will also honor organizations around the community who have helped advance dr. King's dream. The event begins at 11 a.m. central. It will be held at Opelika high school.
