RALEIGH, N.C. -

The owner of the Vortex ride at the North Carolina State fairgrounds has begun dismantling the ride after five people were injured in October 2013 while trying to get off the ride.

The owner began to dismantle the ride Monday night, and they are expected to finish dismantling the ride Tuesday.

Last week, the ride's owner, Joshua Macaroni, began paying for security to watch the ride around the clock as officials finished their investigation.

The State Fair had been paying $400 a day for the security, which came from State Fair revenue.

Macaroni was charged Nov. 6 in connection with the accident. And last month, Macaroni was indicted on three counts of assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury.

The operator of the ride, Tim Tutterrow, was also indicted on three counts of assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. Tutterrow was arrested two days after the accident.

Tutterrow, who is employed by an independent ride contractor, is suspected of tampering with the ride, Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.
