3D printer can build houses in times of natural disasters

Posted: Updated:
CALIFORNIA - This is not your father's old copier.  Imagine a 3D printer that can actually build houses!

A Southern-Cal professor has developed a 3D printer that could change the way we build homes.

It has the capability of building a 2,500 sq. ft. custom home in just hours.

But its main goal is for humanitarian purposes- to build structures when natural disasters strike.

"I think there could be no bigger reward for anyone than knowing that the life we led actually resulted in helping a lot of people,” said Behrokh Khoshnevis, USC professor.

The professor says the development of the printer has seen many ups and downs but he's hoping the technology could soon help millions around the world.
