Russell County Sheriff's Department unveils new investigation center

Posted: Updated:
RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. -

The Russell County Sheriff’s Department celebrated the opening of its new investigative center on Wednesday.

The building is named for Sheriff Heath Taylor, who has served in Russell County law enforcement for more than twenty-three years. Russell County surprised Taylor by naming the center after him.

“I’m surprised and honored,” said Taylor. “I wish this building could be named after everyone in this department.”

The center is located right next door to the Sheriff's Department building. Taylor says they saved more than $300,000 by using many cost-effective resources; something he knew would save the tax payers money as well. Taylor says they built the facility with inmate labor and county employees. Money was also saved through the jail addition.

Sheriff Taylor says the motivating factors for building the center was to allow for growth and more efficiency within the investigative unit.
