5,000 without power across Alabama; only dozens in greater Birmingham area

Over 5,000 Alabama Power customers remain without power, but only dozens of those are in the greater Birmingham area.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, the utility service reported the following outages:

Metro Birmingham: 18

Eastern (Anniston, Gadsden): 19

Southern (Montgomery, Auburn): 1

Western (Tuscaloosa, Carbon Hill): 40

Mobile area: 2

Southeast (Headland, Geneva, Eufaula): 4,980
