RALEIGH, N.C. -

A big crowd showed up for Band Together's Big Cahoot on Saturday night as the charity, which uses music as the foundation for social change, raised $12,500.

The event was held at the City Limits Saloon in Raleigh. Old Habits opened for headliner Yarn, which brought in a large and enthusiastic crowd. Yarn originated in New York but the lead singer now lives in Raleigh.

A total of 547 people attended the event. This year, Band Together's fundraising efforts will benefit Communities in Schools of Durham and Wake counties.

"The Big Cahoot was a special night," said Band Together Executive Director Matt Strickland. "Any time we can mix great music, great people and a great cause, we are making a positive impact in our community."

Last year Band Together raised $852,000 for the Tammy Lynn Center in Raleigh.

Band Together has a major event every spring, which WNCN sponsors. The main act for 2014 has not yet been announced.

Band Together will host its popular Last Band Standing event March 1 at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh. Scheduled to play are Big Daddy Love; Jack the Radio; Onward, Soldiers; and The Morning After.

General admission for that event is $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show.

Last year, the Mac and Juice Quartet won Last Band Standing. Big Something won in 2012 and Lonnie Walker in 2011.
