Red Cross to resume some blood drive operations Thursday

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. -  After severe weather forced the cancellation of all American Red Cross blood drivers in the area, some operations will resume Thursday. Blood donation centers (except in Gainesville) will open from 12 to 7 p.m. and all center are expected to resume regular hours tomorrow, January 31st.

A list of locations can be found at redcrossblood.org/donation-centers/southern. As conditions improve and it's safe to travel, the Red Cross is urging donors to make an appointment to donate blood and replenish lifesaving blood supplies by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org

Since the beginning of January, winter storms and freezing temperatures have resulted in more than 600 Red Cross blood drive cancellations and nearly 20,000 uncollected blood platelet donations. Overall, 26 states and Washington, D.C. have had blood drives canceled because of weather.
