The North Carolina Department of Transportation said crews made progress Thursday on removing snow and ice from secondary roads in Wake County.
NCDOT Deputy Secretary for Communications Mike Charbonneau said additional work is needed on some secondary and neighborhood roads, especially in the southern and eastern areas of Wake County.
NCDOT crews from Durham, Person and Vance Counties will help clear the secondary system in Wake County Friday, Charbonneau said.
"Our goal remains to get all roads clear and safe as quickly as possible, focusing on the safety of our workers and the traveling public through the process," Charbonneau said in a release.
The NCDOT reminds drivers to exercise caution on the roads with the threat of black ice still looming.
Amtrak services are delayed in Morrisville due to a freight trail derailment, authorities said.
