Auburn snaps skid, handles Alabama

AUBURN, Ala. -

On a day when the Auburn football team was honored for one of the greatest victories in Iron Bowl and college football history, the Tiger basketball team stole the show at Auburn Arena.

After the football got their ODK Sportsmanship Trophy, the Tigers went out and outscored the Crimson Tide 44-33 in the second half to win, 74-55.

The win is the first SEC win of the year for Tony Barbee's club, and snaps a 16-game SEC losing streak. The last two conference wins for Auburn have both come against Alabama.

Auburn started the game on a 12-0 run and never trailed, thanks to a career night from Columbus native and former Shaw Raider Chris Denson, who had 32 points and seven rebounds.

KT Harrell added 23 points. Trevor Releford paced the Tide with 15, the only player from Alabama in double figures.

Auburn hosts Georgia on Saturday, scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. CT tip-off. Alabama is also back in action on Saturday when Tennessee comes to town, tip-off at 8:00 p.m. CT.
