SNOW HILL, N.C. - The Greene County Sheriff's Office is charging the father of a one year old girl shot and killed in what they say was an accident.

Friday, Allen Ormond Jr and his friend Kevin Elkins made their first appearance in court.

Elkins is charged with possession of firearm by a felon. Ormond Jr faces charges for involuntary manslaughter, possession of firearm by a felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.

The shooting happened Wednesday night.

Deputies say they were called to Letchworth Drive after a one-year-old was accidentally shot.

Ormond's family confirms the baby to be Allenwgia Pope.

According the arrest warrant, the child was shot by a "bolt action rifle."

Marie Letchworth rents the home to one of the suspect's parents. She says nothing like this has ever happened like this before.

"Oh Lord, I felt terrible,” said Marie Letchworth, neighbor. “And I couldn't believe that somebody had shot a child."

Letchworth says the two men were having dinner with Elkins' parents at their home on Letchworth Dr. when the shooting occurred.

"She was cooking. She washed the dishes and cleaned up, and all of the sudden she heard a terrible noise. She went out to see what was wrong and this little girl, one-year-old, somewhere around there, had walked in front of the gun and had got shot," sad Letchworth.

The two men are being held in the Greene County Detention Center.

Ormond has a $50,000 bond. Elkins has a $50,000 bond.
