Britax strollers recalled for fingertip amputation hazard

Posted: Updated:
Some 216,000 thousand baby strollers in the United States manufactured by Britax are being recalled because of a partial fingertip amputation hazard, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced.

The hinge on the stroller's folding mechanism can partially amputate consumer's fingertips, break their fingers or cause several lacerations among other tips of injuries when the consumer presses the release  button while pulling on the release strap, according to the government agency.

The following products are being recalled:
> B-Agile (Model numbers: U341763, U341764, U341782 and U341783)
> B-Agile Double (Model numbers: U361818 or U361819)
> BOB Motion (Model numbers: U391820, U391821 and U391822)

The products were manufactured between March 2011 and June 2013 and sold at nationwide retailers including Amazon.com, albeebaby.com, buybuybaby.com, diapers.com, and ToysRUs.com.

The safety commission says there are eight incidents of injuries, including one partial fingertip amputation.

Consumers who own these models are encouraged to contact Britax at 866-204-1665 between 8:30a and 6p et Monday through Thursday. Friday hours are between 8:30a and 5p et. Consumers can also visit www.britaxusa.com, www.bobgear.com or e-mail strollerrecall@britax.com.
