From crowdsurfing to AWOLNATION's "Sail" to belting of Pat Benatar's "We Belong" while standing on a golden grand piano, Raleigh's Kat Robichaud gave some of the most memorable performances on last season's "The Voice."

Still, while she admirably made it to the Top-10 of the competition, she was sent home. But that didn't mean Kat was going to stop pursuing a career in music.

Far from it.

The Concord native launched a Kickstarter campaign Monday morning to record and release her first post-"The Voice" album; and Kat said the idea for the campaign came from her experience on the show, which she said "is an incredible platform for helping you get your name out there."

"The whole reason I wanted to do the Kickstarter was because of the Twitter Instant Save on 'The Voice,'" Kat said. "I've never been picked for anything growing up; I was always the last one to get picked on the team."

During the second week of live performances, Kat was saved from elimination by a last-minute Instant Save. The Instant Save window opens for five minutes while fans tweet "#VoiceSave" along with the name of the artist they wanted to save.

"When the Twitter save happened, I remember I just looked at my husband and my mom in the audience, and I said, 'I'm going home,'" Kat recalled. "When they called my name, I was just like, 'WHAT?' It was incredible. In five minutes all these amazing people around the world came together and saved me."

Now, a little more than 16 hours after her Kickstarter campaign officially launched, Kat is once again seeing her fans coming together to help her achieve her dreams. Her campaign has had more than 150 backers pledge more than $10,000 toward her $20,000 goal. And the campaign still has 29 days to go.

"Having this happen again and seeing people contribute this morning, it's incredible," Kat said.

With a Kickstarter campaign, Kat explained that she has the flexibility of not having to pay an overhead to a record label while giving fans a more personal experience. She said the Kickstarter allows the fans to contribute to process of recording and releasing an album.

"It's just like, 'Hey, I want to put this album out, you guys want me to put an album out, let's get together and make this happen,'" Kat said. "Kickstarter is a really great way to be very direct with your fans -- there's no middle man."

Fan who contribute to the Kickstarter campaign are rewarded based on pledge amount. For example, a pledge of $2 will net a digital download of the completed album, while a pledge of $5,000 will score a private concert from Kat at your house. "If there's a pool, I'm throwing the patio furniture in and we're pretending we're acrobats," the Kickstarter describes.

"I decided to do it through it Kickstarter rather than a record label because the wonderful thing about Kickstarter is that if you donate, you get so much more than if you were to just go out and buy an album," Kat said. "It's just a really great way to directly connect with the fans and keep that going."

For those who may not be familiar with her career prior to "The Voice," Kat said fans can expect more of what they saw on show -- namely theatrics and rock 'n' roll.

"I'm very much influenced by the '70s glam rock -- I really love Queen, David Bowie and ELO -- but if you saw me on 'The Voice,' you saw that I also really love performing," Kat said. "It's just going to be a rock 'n' roll explosion. You're going to hear a lot of influences in there, but it's also very new and it's me -- there's only one."

Kat also pointed to one of her biggest idols as a major influence on the album's style.

"One of my biggest idols is Amanda Palmer, and she's big on the cabaret rock," Kat said. "She's been really amazing with helping me get my Kickstarter together, so I feel very fortunate."

Kat's Kickstarter campaign ends at 2:56 a.m. on March 5. The project will only be funded if the full $20,000 is pledged by that deadline.

The sixth season of "The Voice" is slated to premiere on Feb. 24 with stalwart coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as well as Shakira and Usher stepping in for CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera.
