COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Presented by TSYS, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley (BGCCV) will host its first annual Corporate Youth of the Year event on March 13, 2014, at the National Infantry Museum. At the event, one of four teen club members will be named the BGCCV’s Youth of the Year winner. The newly named Youth of the Year recipient will receive a $500 scholarship and then compete against other Boys & Girls Clubs members across Georgia for the state title and an additional $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation. State winners move on to vie for the distinction of one of five regional winners across the country, and ultimately those five winners will contend for the title of National Youth of the Year.

Prior to the awards ceremony, contestants will go through a series of rigorous training and preparation exercises for the event. Finalists will prepare submission packets and speeches for judging at Columbus State University with previous Youth of the Year judge and Communications professor, Dr. Christopher McCullough. In addition, finalists will complete an etiquette course with the Dispensational Small Businesses and CEO, Alicia Cooper, and go through a styling session at Kohl’s Department Store to become well prepared for the semi-formal event and judging competition.

Judging of the finalists will take place on February 11, 2014, with influential community members volunteering as judges.  Current judges and their respective companies include:  Judy Dunham, Georgia Power; John and Jake Flournoy, Flournoy Development; Dr. David Lewis, Muscogee County Superintendent of Education; Nora Jordan Garrard, prominent community supporter; Bill Reaves, Containers by Reaves; Gene Perkins, SunTrust Bank; Dr. Barbara Buckner, Dean of Education at Columbus State; Jack Turner, current BGCCV Board President; and Julie Stark, Board member and Chairperson for the Youth of the Year Committee.
