Phenix City woman arrested for sexually abusing child

Posted: Updated:
PHENIX CITY, Ala. - The Lee County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Phenix City woman for allegedly sexually abusing a child and producing obscene material related to that child, according to Sheriff Jay Jones.

Deputies arrested Sonya Rae Reese Lehman, 40, at her home Friday and charged her with one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, one count of Sodomy in the First Degree, nine counts of Possession of Obscene Matter of a Person Under Seventeen Years of Age and nine counts of Production of Obscene Matter of a Child Under Seventeen Years of Age. All of the charges stem from a relationship Lehman had with one child, according to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

Lehman was taken to the Lee County Detention Center and released on a $450,000 property bond.

Officials say the case remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed against Lehman. Sheriff Jones anticipates there may be other victims out there who will come forward with similar allegations.

The Alabama Department of Human Resources are providing support services to the child, according to Jones. The name of the child is not being released because they are a minor who is the alleged victim of a sex rime.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Lee County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-522-7847.
