Fourth suspect arrested in Columbus' Motel 8 murder

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS. Ga. - A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection to Columbus' first murder of 2014. Christopher Womack, 19, reportedly turned himself in to authorities Thursday night, according to WRBL News 3 media partner The Ledger-Enquirer.

Womack was taken to the Muscogee County jail Thursday on charges including aggravated assault, attempted armed robbery, murder, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime.

Womack was wanted for the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Troy Saunders, of Fort Mitchell, Ala., during an attempted robbery on January 24. Police say Saunder's body was found in a car near the intersection of Gentian Boulevard and University Avenue.

Niesha Jones, 17, and Mayson Gibson, 20, were arrested and charged with murder, aggravated assault and criminal attempt armed robbery shortly after the incident.

The Ledger reports that Saunders and another man were allegedly at the motel to buy marijuana when they were robbed. Saunders tried to drive away after being shot.
