Northside sweeps region titles; tournament update

The Northside boys and girls swept the region 1-AAAAA basketball titles for the first time in school history.

The boys defeated Bainbridge, 64-62, while the girls knocked off Lee County, 54-33.

In consolation games, the Hardaway girls beat Lee County, 33-32, and the Hardaway boys fell to Bainbridge, 55-44.

In 5-AAAA, the Columbus girls are region champs after surviving Fayette County, 70-67, in overtime.

The Carver boys won the 2-AAA title, beating Central-Macon, 74-55.

In region 5-AA, the Kendrick girls cruised past Bowdon, 77-25, and Manchester squeaked by Spencer, 60-57, to set up a Kendrick/Manchester meeting for the region title Tuesday night.

In boys action, Kendrick knocked off Spencer, 73-63, while Manchester manhandled Jordan, 74-49, for a Manchester/Kendrick boys final.
