Smiths Station hires Alpharetta's Dukes as football coach

Posted: Updated:

Smiths Station High School has tabbed Jason Dukes, formerly of Alpharetta High, to take over the Panther football program.

David Mitchell of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer first reported the news.

Dukes’s hire is pending board approval on Tuesday. He replaces Mark Rose, who departed for North Jackson High last month.

A four-year starter at Georgia Tech, Dukes has spent the last 10 years at Alpharetta, five as head coach, guiding the Raiders to four straight playoff appearances, including a region title in 2011 and 2013, and a Class AAAAAA playoff win in ’13.

Dukes told the Ledger-Enquirer he will meet with current Smiths Station assistants before making any decisions on staff.
