Cool School: Rothschild Leadership Academy

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - A local middle school is teaching their students leadership skills like thinking before they make decision and having a plan for their education. News Three's Naomi Keitt takes us inside this week's Cool School: Rothschild Leadership Academy.

"This year I have learned to not let feelings, the way I feel, stop  me from accomplishing my goals," said 7th grade student Alexander King.

Rothschild leadership Academy focuses on developing students academically and relationally so they can achieve success in the future. The curriculum focuses on leadership skills and development and student get to practice every day in the classroom.

"They hear leadership and they hear the habits, and they hear what we expect from them so that one day when they walk in the workforce, they'll be that leader to every workforce is looking for," said Carmen Weeks, Assistant Principal.

Students enjoy a number of opportunities that develop them outside the classroom.

"I've been in our school's debate team, I am also one of the producers for our school's morning announcement and TSA which is technology student association," said King.

"Rothschild is just a good school to help you in your future life as well because it helps you with how to calculate money skills," said 8th grade student Chantel Bass.

Inside the classroom students are assigned leadership roles like communication director and classroom assistant to teach them to work together.

"The roles in the classroom help with the students learning, understanding what their individual job is and how that job plays a part in the whole and everybody coming together and making sure that we have an effective learning environment," said Sherry Bell, Language Arts and Math teacher.

The students are certain their experiences will help them in their future endeavors.

"I really do think so because this is like a very small bushel growing and sprouting into a very big tree," said King.

"If I can do my best here, then I can do my best anywhere else," said Bass.
