Dorm room intruder reported at Duke University

DURHAM, N.C. -

Duke University police are investigating reports of a man found lurking inside the dorm room of two females students Tuesday morning.

Durham police said the incident occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the Few Quad on Duke's West Campus after the students left their dorm room unlocked.

University spokesperson Keith Lawrence said police do not know the identity of the intruder or whether or not he was a student.

Lawrence said students who live in the quad were notified by either text or email but that the situation did not warrant a campus-wide alert.  Lawrence also said students were reminded to lock their doors.

Duke student Catherine White, who reported the incident to police, told the Duke Chronicle the man appeared to be too old to be a student and he initially refused to leave the room.
