Candidates qualify for Columbus elections

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Candidates began qualifying Monday for local elections ahead of a Friday deadline.

John Wells will run for reelection in the Muscogee Count School Board Education District 2 against John "Bart" Sneed. Beth Harris is defending her District 8 seat against Frank Myers. Mark Cantrell is currently running unopposed for his seat in District 6. Naomi Buckner is currently unopposed in the race for her District 4 seat.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson filed her paperwork Monday to run for reelection.

Judge Andy Prather is also set to run for state court.

Qualifying ends at Noon Friday.

Candidates for Columbus mayor will take part in a live debate on April 21. The debate, the first in several being produced by WRBL, will be seen live at 7 p.m. from the Columbus State University's Davidson Hall Auditorium.
