DURHAM: 3 snow days will be forgiven - WRBL

Durham Schools will forgive 3 snow days

DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham Public Schools will forgive three snow days, the school board voted Tuesday afternoon.

The decision means Durham students will not give up days during spring break and will not have to make up time missed on February 13, 14 and March 4.

"We do not want to interrupt spring break," School Board member Minnie Forte-Brown said.  "Our teachers are working extremely hard under conditions that require that we listen to them, and listen to our students, who are also working quite hard."

Durham, like many area school systems, has been hit hard by snow and ice this winter, causing multiple days of school missed.

Durham was out of school again on Tuesday after Monday's icy conditions.

North Carolina public schools are required to have students in school 185 days or have at least 1,025 hours of instructional time. Durham schools expect to meet the hours requirement, meaning they can have students at school fewer days.
