Duke alerts students of nearby robbery

DURHAM, N.C. -

Duke University sent out an alert to students early Wednesday morning about a robbery and crash near campus.

According to the alert, an armed robbery took place at the BP gas station at the corner of Main Street and Ninth Street.

The suspect's vehicle was found wrecked at Campus Drive and Anderson Street. A police dog has tracked the suspect moving away from campus and toward Duke University Road.

The Duke Alert gives a generic description of the suspect, a black male in his 40s with a beard and wearing all black.

Students are being encouraged to avoid the area and to report any suspicious activity.
