BIRMINGHAM, AL - Authorities have identified a woman struck and killed by a DART bus Tuesday afternoon.

Pouneh Bahri, 25, of Centreville, VA, was walking at the time of the incident. The father of Pouneh tries to remain calm after losing his daughter.

Our family is not in a good situation right now, we're still under the shock," Behraz Bahari said.

Bahri says his daughter had a wonderful personality and was so energetic.

"She was a person with all positive, there was no negative on her," Bahari added.

He says Pouneh suffered from seizures as a child. She was diagnosed with Rasmussen's Encephalitis, a rare inflammatory neurological disease. Doctors removed the right half of her brain at age 3.

"It's hard to live without half of the brain, but she was able to function with half of a brain and she was fluent in three languages," Bahari said.

Pouneh attended the Horizons School in Birmingham, attended a local church, and Sunday school class.

"She learned to make friends, enjoy Birmingham, enjoy her friends and her independence," Dr. Jade Carter said.

The school's director, Dr. Jade Carter, says other students are having a hard time coping with the loss.

"We have students who tried to go to work today and couldn't stay. They're distracted," Dr. Jade Carter added.

Sam Giffin, the owner of Roly Poly Sandwiches, says Pouneh would eat lunch there three times every week.

"As soon as she walked through the door, the sandwich maker would start making her sandwich because she always get the same sandwich every time but sweet girl," Giffin said.

A sweet girl that many say they will miss. Pouneh was set to graduate from the Horizons School in May. The school will host a memorial at that time and her family says they plan to attend.

There's a picture of Pouneh Bahari on social media sites. We asked her father for permission to use her photos but they asked that we do not broadcast them. Out of respect, we will honor their request.

The accident is still being investigated.
