One killed in Falkland rollover

Posted: Updated:
FALKLAND, NC - A man is dead after a four-car accident in Pitt County.

51-year-old Tony Leonard was killed when the mini-van he was riding in flipped over.

The accident started before noon Wednesday on Highway 43 just south of Falkland

Troopers say it all started when a black car, driving northbound, went into the southbound lane, illegally trying to pass.

That caused several cars in the southbound lane to slam on their brakes.

One of those cars rear-ended a white Ford SUV, which spun out, hitting a disabled veteran's mini-van.

The mini-van then flipped killing Leonard and injuring its driver, 63-year-old Yattie Williams.

The driver who slammed into the white Ford SUV, Jamie Warren, is being charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Troopers say she was following the SUV too closely.

Highway Patrol's still looking for that black car they say is being driven by a black female.

"It's limited information, but if anyone knows any information or witnessed this collision or any information, they need to contact the Highway Patrol and the Greenville office,” said Sgt. Gary Weaver, N.C. Highway Patrol.

Anyone with information on this accident is asked to call North Carolina Highway Patrol at 252-752-6118.
